Bug in ActionTec GT701 (Sunday, November 25th, 2007) | ![]() |

Grr! There's a bug in the firmware (including the latest version available from Qwest) of the ActionTec GT701 DSL modem. When using DHCP, the DHCP server sends its own IP address instead of the primary DNS IP. The secondary DNS IP works correctly. This can cause delays of a few seconds when loading web sites, for example. The only workarounds are to not use DHCP, use a different DHCP server, or hack your client to ignore that IP (one idea here). |

“The idea that Bill Gates has appeared like a knight in shining
armour to lead all customers out of a mire of technological chaos neatly
ignores the fact that it was he who, by peddling second-rate technology,
led them into it in the first place.”
- Douglas Adams, on Windows 95 |
