Crunchwrap Supreme (Thursday, August 19th, 2004) |
So I tried the Crunchwrap Supreme at Taco Bell (sans tomatoes), and it was good, so later I got another one from a different Taco Bell, and it was also good. It's a flat tostada shell thing, with meat and cheese on one side and lettuce and sour cream (and tomatoes if you like that, blech) on the other, all wrapped in a flour tortilla (shaped rather like a stop-sign) and grilled. The curious thing is, I was chatting on IRC with a young girl who works at Taco Bell in Illinois, and I mentioned I thought these were good, but I couldn't remember what they were called... and she had no idea what I was talking about. So I checked tacobell.com, and it's not there. Then while passing yet another Taco Bell yesterday, I noticed the sign in the window, and remembered the name of it this time. A Google search finds only two matches, one of which is a forum site in which a poster asks whether anyone has seen them, and the other is a blog site that doesn't appear to contain the mention of them any longer. This strikes me as interesting. Why would such a great product be kept such a big secret? Is it even an official Taco Bell product, or did regional managers in the Portland area come up with it on their own without the involvement of Taco Bell corporate? Since I don't watch TV, I can't say whether it's been advertised; perhaps someone could enlighten me. I'm too lazy to e-mail Taco Bell, but does anyone know what the deal is? |
