So I've sorta been on a programming binge lately. Recently released
new versions of BannerFilter and the
source code to this web site, and I've been working
on an IRC bot called frogbot, which hangs out on
NullIRC and
Formatted. Also, for
comparison, trying out a friend's bot code, called
IQ, written in PHP.
Yes, an IRC bot, written in PHP, that runs from a terminal. I've been
learning a bit of PHP, and although it does have some nice features that
Perl lacks (or has but are harder to use), overall it's a pretty awful
language, in my opinion. It's easier than Perl to do certain things in,
so if that's what you're doing, sure, use it - but if you don't know Perl,
you're missing out.
Speaking of Perl, I found an interesting bug related to array indexes
above 2^31. I've submitted it as bug #30979 if anyone's interested. Perl's
behavior is somewhat understandable, but, in my opinion, wrong.
Here are some photos
of a party I went to in Wisconsin, with a bunch of people from IRC. Seven
people, seven laptops, three operating systems, and.. nothing to do.
So, I'm back to looking for work. Let me know if you've got any good
leads.
